Benefits

“Through the Honors Program I get valuable opportunities I wouldn’t get otherwise.” - Darian

The Honors Program at the University of the Incarnate Word adds a level of intellectual inquiry to stimulate curious minds. It provides a challenging curriculum and insightful programs, woven together with the concept of social justice. Included are co-curricular programs in all types of artistic and academic fields and service learning opportunities in and out of the classroom.

Through the Honors Program, students gain:

  • Strengthened analytical skills
  • Exposure to new ways of thinking and asking questions
  • A safe environment for exploring provocative societal topics
  • Opportunities to develop professional skills

In addition, honors students qualify for priority registration for their next semester schedule. That means that freshmen register for their classes with the seniors, making their chances near 100% for obtaining their ideal schedule.

“I live with other honors students in honors housing and I study with them. It’s so great that we can study and help each other out.” – Tin

Honors housing is available to freshmen in Agnese/Sosa Residence Hall.  Honors residents love the easy camaraderie and study sessions that naturally arise from living together. Other benefits include early notification of job, internship and scholarship opportunities through the Honors Director.

The students themselves have a tight-knit group that supports each other in every imaginable way: socially, emotionally and academically. Study groups, movie nights, intramurals, and interesting discussions on hot topics are all part of the honors lifestyle. What’s next is up to you!
