Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will be responsible to assist the Dean with the overall administration of the academic programs of the School of Physical Therapy, the implementation of academic policies, the curriculum assessment, and the recruitment, retention and development of faculty. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to conducting and coordinating the activities related to assessment and faculty development in the School of Physical Therapy, facilitating, supporting and promoting the scholarship of teaching, learning and assessment within the School, fostering a learning community culture that is transformative and centered on enhancing faculty teaching effectiveness and promoting student learning. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Implement an Assessment Plan for the School. Develop annual calendar of assessment activities with deadlines and dates to assure timely and organized data collection. Provide guidance and oversight for assessment activities across environments including academic year and course threads. Manage and coordinate School assessment data. Analyze and summarize assessment data. Track assessment data over time to identify trends and patterns for enhancement
  • Oversee faculty recruitment and retention efforts. Provide leadership in promoting a culture of assessment in the School that will lead to increased scholarship of assessment activities. Serve as a resource to faculty in problem solving teaching and learning issues. Develop an orientation program for faculty, students, and staff that will facilitate the development of an assessment culture within the School.
  • Engage in service to the School, University, profession, and /or community, maintain a scholarly agenda, and contribute to teaching as assigned by the Dean

Requirements

  • A degree in physical therapy, and
  • An advanced terminal degree (PhD, EdD, DSc)
  • Academic experience in physical therapy education at the rank of Associate or Full Professor
  • A minimum of two years in a physical therapy program administrative position
  • Demonstrated effective leadership, sound decision-making processes, excellent organizational skills, ability to multitask, as well as, ability to exercise maturity, discretion and independent judgment needed to handle confidential information, documents and communication.
  • Ability to take initiative, work collaboratively in a team, and thrive in a demanding, fast-paced environment. Must be able to exercise flexibility and adaptability.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills reflected by the ability to communicate effectively with very diverse constituencies both inside and outside the University.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Must be a member of the American Physical Therapy Association licensed or eligible for licensure in Texas

Full-Time 12-month Tenure Track Positions

One 12-month tenured track faculty position for Summer of 2014. Part-Time

Adjunct/associate faculty positions in a developing problem-based Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Adjunct/Associate faculty members are contracted one term at a time for up to three terms per year. Adjunct/associate faculty members are not eligible to participate in the University benefit programs. This applicant pool will remain online and allows the Doctor of Physical Therapy program to hire interested applicants based on student enrollment needs.

Essential Functions

  • Team-teaching in a problem-based curriculum including preparatory team meetings.
  • Tutoring of small group of students.
  • Evaluation of students’ performance in small group sessions.
  • Teaching assistant in skills development laboratory.
  • Participation in comprehensive practical examination.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited physical therapy program
  • Earned (or enrolled in doctoral program) academic (PhD, EdD, DSc) or clinical (DPT) doctoral degree
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as licensed physical therapist
  • Licensed to practice in Texas or eligible for licensure.
  • Member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
