Fencing Summer Camps and Classes

 UIW Saber Camp
Ages 10 – 15
Jul 14 – 17
August 11 – 14

Don’t blink or you’ll miss it! Sabre is the Fastest and most Furious of the Olympic Fencing “Weapons”. These mini-sessons will introduce you to the sport of sabre, its footwork, bladeword, rules and tactics. Sessions are taught by Gary M. van der Wege, USFCA Instructor, former National Champion and World Ranked Fencer. Equipment provided.

Beginner Foil Fencing Class 
Ages 12 – 18
July 15 – Aug 14

The five-week class will teach footwork, offensive and defensive blade work, tactics, terminology and rules of this old, yet ultra-modern sport.  Equipment is provided.

Instruction first hour, bouting second hour

Intermediate Foil Fencing Class 
Ages 12-18
Jul 17 – August 14

This on-going session of instruction is for those with a previous background in the sport of fencing. Fencers will focus on more precision in their blade work, as well and a better sense of tactics. There will also be ample opportunities for bouting under the guidance of USFCA certified coach Gary van der Wege. Five-week sessions.

UIW Modern Pentathlon Camp
July 28, 2014 – August 2, 2014
9:00 a.m. –  3:00 p.m.

Come try the amazing sport of Modern Pentathlon. This camp will focus on training 4 of the 5 disciplines of the Pentathlon, Running, Shooting, Fencing, and Swimming. Please note there is no live ammo used in these pistols they are competition grade laser pistols, each camper will take a gun safety course at the start of camp.

Camp will be held at UIW Natatorium and UIW Fencing Center
